is part of alternative medicine, being very popular in Traditional Chinese Medicine. Ancient Egyptians used cupping therapy in 1,550 and was recommended by Hippocrates.
Professor Dr Lin Zhi-xiu:
,,Cupping therapy is said to have the therapeutic effects of warming the meridians and invigorating the small vessels, enhancing qi movement and removing blood stasis, dissolving swell and stopping pain, expelling wind and cold pathogens.”
It seems that it have something in common with body energy. It is said that disease results when the positive energy through the meridians of the body is blocked. Cupping draws blood to the affected area, energizing skin tissues.
Cupping involves placing glass, bamboo or plastic jars on the skin , and the modern one- silicone cup.
People get usually for many purposes, including pain, allergies, inflammation, blood flow, moving lymph fluid, fatigue, relaxation and well-being. If there is an injury or energetic blockage under the area that was cupped, the skin temporarily turn in red, blue or purple. It shows that the congestion at that particular spot has been released.
There are different methods of cupping, The traditional method to treat various diseases including:
Dry – when the cup is set in place for a set time, usually between 5 and 10 minutes, than the practitioner removes the cup (is the most common form of therapy)
Wet- when cups are usually leaving in place for about 3 minutes and then the therapist creates a mild suction and use a small scalpel to make light, tiny cuts on your skin. It believe that wet cupping removes harmful substances and toxins from the body to promote healing
,,During both types of cupping, the therapist will put a flammable substance such as alcohol, herbs, or paper in a cup and set it on fire. As the fire goes out, he puts the cup upside down on your skin” (source WebMD).
Nowday, in a modern version ,the cups can also be attached to a rubber pump that creates suction (instead of fire).
Another classification are ,,Fixed Cupping” and “Moving cupping” used in massage cellulite therapy.
In Fixed Cupping the cups are left in place without being moved, in a selected area of your body, usually on your back.
Moving Cupping puts the cups over the afected areas andthen slides them around that region of the body. You need to applies massage oil or cream on your skin or use on wet skin with soap or a body wash in the shower.
